Baldock, North Hertfordshire

After living in London for 11 years and having our first child there, we've just sold our flat and made the scary decision to leave. We're thinking of moving to Baldock in North Hertfordshire and wondered if anyone had any advice for us about what it's like living there. We're going to rent at first, so we're looking for somewhere to live, but just wanted to ask if anyone had any hints and tips on where's good! Any help/advice gratefully received!

Many thanks

I have friends near there who LOVE it. That's all i know.

Expensive, though...

baldock is really nice. but the main road is busy even after the bypass. the road from a507 is as well.

but it is a nice community, good links (cambridge and london) and has a mix of little shops and places to eat too. You have the big leisure centre nearby and loads of great little villages near (walkern, norton, stotfold mill)
i'd say go for it and keep an open mind. good luck!
we were hitchin for years which is lovely too and imo slightly better than baldock but bigger of course!

I only know Baldock from driving through it to get to Letchworth, it always looked very pretty, but I agree that the road was quite busy. My brother moved out of central London a couple of years ago to Arlesey when they had their first child. They have been very happy there and he still gets the train into London every day to work. I think its on the Kings Cross line. SIL seems very settled into the village life, they have 3 boys now and the oldest has just started at the primary school and the middle one is in pre-school.
