Need help with sitting room colours please!

I need help!

I'm trying to half redesign the sitting room at the moment.

We currently only have a sofa and chair which isn't really adequate. The room is a bit of an awkward shape as you can only have furniture along one wall or in the bay window as the fireplace is on one side and the other wall has the door in the middle of the wall(goodness knows why!).

It is a victorian terrace so not a big room.

So- I have found an armchair that I quite like the look of - and more importantly will fit alongside the wall next to the sofa - I have a brown leather sofa which I thought would go quite nicely with the chair.

So, what colour would I do the walls - would white be too harsh? and can anyone find some art to go on the walls? I'm thinking black and white photos? Or would that look odd?

Would a cream rug look good? The one at the moment is oatmeal-ey colour which was great when ds was little but as it doesn't show any spills! Floor is oak.

Walls at the moment are a non offensive magnolia!

Thank you

I think white would be too harsh tbw.If the chair you are ordering is in the deep pink i would paint the breast wall of the fireplace pink [a warm toned pink] and paint the other walls gardenia by dulux which is a trade colour that looks warm and is not pinky/yellow.Buy silk or iridescent cushions in maybe pink/gold[dunelm mill]and maybe brown tones to tie everything in together.I think black and white pictures would look too cold and you need warmer tones.Maybe a picture with all the colours you are using in the cushions.Try all the colours together to see if they go[using sample pots and fabric]before hand.

Ooh nice ideas - I find it difficult to imagine colour combinations so thanks for those two ideas.

Yes - black and white would probably be too cold.

Thank you

That chair looks really nice and should tone in well with brown leather sofa.

I would say what about a really deep brown chocolate coloured rug and F&B do a colour called Lime White (it's obviously more white than lime!) which would tone with the pink and the brown.

Ooh lovely - thank you - more ideas.

I like the idea of colour on the walls - but am so worried about getting it wrong - I guess at least you can always paint over it if it looks disasterous.

It's a bright room and gets the sun for the afternoon and evening so could probably get away with some more colour in there.

The fireplace is a dark brown which dark marble inserts so I think a dark rug may be a bit too much - will have a think.

I'll look into the Lime White.
