Sleeping platforms?

Has anyone got a sleeping platform in a loft conversion or the like? I'm thinking about trying to incorporate one in our collapsing cart lodge (once propped up again and turned into liveable space, natch) and wondered how wide they need to be, and how much headroom they need?

Is it for adults? Or teens - if so it'll need to be tall enough to reach your arms up above your head, really.

Width can be anything depending on what you want on it - single bed obv narrower than double!

plus a bit of room at the side, for access, maybe.

we had one in our last house. was wonderful. you could just about stand up at the highest point (without arms up), but this wasnt uniform. ours was wide enough for a double matress and about 70cm on one side We had a skylight over the bed, which meant that you could lie in their and look right up at the stars, it was wonderful.

Oooh, that sounds lovely, Her Honesty. How did you get up there? Did you have a ladder type thing or more of a proper staircase?

I can see you're both right about needing a bit of space for access at the side, but I'm not sure how possible it will be to stand up...

it was a more like a very steep staircase, but quite narrow, but with decent tread. It was actually a kit of the internet, i'll see if i can get weblink. a very good use of space, (we called it the shagshelf!) imho.

cant find the exact one, but it was a bit like this, but the treads were even and without hand rail as it was abutted to the wall, so handrail was in wall. and painted white... (remembering fondly//)

half ladder, half stairs, if you know what i mean
