It might do, slightly, but it depends a lot more on how dark you walls are and how much/ scale of your furniture.

It looks lovely, so if you like it that is more important.

One word of advice though, I have a dark marmoleum floor in my kitchen. /it shows up dirt much more than a pale floor. Be prepared to love your broom/ vacuum cleaner if you go for a dark floor. Counter intuitive but real.

Have you looked at the floor boards you have got?

Cos I have a 1930's house and stained my own floor boards that colour and it looked fab.

Ivykaty44 · 09/05/2010 19:56

It cost me £10 per room for the stain and I used an electric hand sander to sand the boards and used white spirit to pick up anything before staining.

i have a dark floor like this and it's lovely. you have to have light walls tho

we stripped our floorboards back first, but they are in a very bad state with massive gaps and no insulation underneath so living room and hall are very cold

Oh gosh, that's stunning! I really do think that's gorgeous.

Am I right in remembering that you have a lot of antiques, plus lots of objet d'art of an Indian and Oriental nature? I think it might come out looking quite Orientalist / 'Last Days of the Raj' in style, which might or might not be what you want! It would definitely be a strong style statement!

yes yes yes! very oka style if you know what i mean.
