TV Stands - are there any "nice" ones?

We're about to invest throw away some cash on a TV - just your normal regulation flat screen one, not that big, that everyone seems to have these days (and finally chuck out our old wind-up clockwork one)

However the TV "stands" that seem to be promoted along side the TV's are, for me, a bridge too far. They look all plastic-y and modern-y. How can I ease the pain? Our current Tv is perched on a rickety chair but this is a look that DH finally wants to consign to oblivion. The full on modern look, is to me however, anathama (sp).

Please tell me - what can I put my tV on that is not a friggin TV STAND?? (p.s. No Dormy-house thankyouverymuch)

What's 'Dormy-house'?

www.thedormyhouse.co.uk

you are not thick for not knowing of it!!

and as I have now revisited their website, actually their TV stand things are actually quite ok. A few years back, they had sort of dressing tabley freaky creations with frills on, masquerading as TV stands

We have a 37" stood on this which handily we can hide all our other electrical stuff in wii, dvd etc... and we stand a 32" on this which is ok but not as good quality as the first one.
