F&B Colour experts. Never mind elections, what about my bedroom furniture?

Bored of hung parliaments, let's talk about me.

We have this furniture in our bedroom. It is nicer than it looks online actually. We have a wardrobe, bed, 3 sets of drawers, and bedside tables. So quite a bit, hence we got this cheap and cheerful and easy to add to range.

It's a good big room painted 3 shades of off white, a fab sash window with an arch. The bedding is always a White Company something or other, and therefore, well, white . Carpet s a shaggy-ish dark cream/light beige.

'm now a bit over the whole plain and neutral, and want to brighten it all up a bit. It's dragging me down a bit.

Sooooo. Dear mother has said she will paint our furniture whilst we are away. We are going to paint it white, to get a more classic look. I'm then going to introduce some florals, maybe a pale White Company or even a stronger Cath Kitson.

What paint colour would you suggest? I had a look at the Farrow and Ball colours and lost all judgement in the haze of a million shades of cream.

BTW - doesn't have to be F&B but I thought they were a good start.

My kitchen cabinets are painted in Lime White. Some furniture in my guest room is Pale Hound. Pale Hound is a vvvvvvv pale green shade of cream and I like it a lot.

Alternatively, if you want to get away from the white/cream (and it may be a good idea if all the walls are white too), I'd suggest a soft green/blue. There is a shade called Green Blue which is very soft and cool. I have painted my summerhouse in that one but I think it'd look nice in an all white room.

Green blue is lovely. Vert de Verre is also a nice soft green, quite pale but definitely green.

A shop near us has some french furniture which has been distressed and painted in Matchstick, which looks lovely, quite pale cream in the light.

Pointing is just off white, but looks good on furniture as well.

I like those suggestions, thank you. Especially Pale Hound. I was drawn to Wimbourne White and James White, and I'm thinking that Pale hound is similar, but more iyswim.

As you haev the colour Pale Hound, I'd be interested in how it sits in the room. Would someone look at it and think 'a kind of white white' or ' a kind of green'?

Love the Green Blue but it's too similar to our front door. Love it though.

Ah, Pale Hound. That was it Tree. Now why on earth couldn't I remember that, what with all the pale hounds I have lounging around the place.

treedelivery · 07/05/2010 20:38

Thanks preggerspollsred. I think I am leanng towards cooler brighter colours, to try and counter the rather somber carpet. I'm really drawn to James White at the moment.

Not tried James White, so can't comment then.

Very addictive though, F&B colours, aren't they? I keep looking in my house for things I can paint

mumblechum · 07/05/2010 20:47

I also have Pale Hound on my kitchen walls, and as I say, lime white on the cabinets, and there is definitely a discernible green tinge to the PH, esp. against a bright white. It's quite a warm colour, in fact I have it in my ironing room and guest bathroom as well. Once I find a colour I like, it appears all over the house!

treedelivery · 07/05/2010 20:54

I'll confess to having day dreams about an ironing room now mumblechum

Hey Moose

Ok, am putting together a notebook, then I'll order the 5 sample cards. So far, so undecided

Hi Tree Ok, so now I feel daft.

I refuse to dream about an ironing room. I prefer to dream about a lovely lady that irons for me.

treedelivery · 07/05/2010 21:03

..in a lovely room.

Oh I will have a nice finished house. I will

I think pale hound might be too warm. I really want to tone down my beige carpet and leave the living in a biscuit feeling firmly behind.

Add to that we only have one window. It's a good size, but all the other rooms have at least 2, usually 3 of equal size. So this room is darker than I am used to in this house. The rooms below me have a lovely clear 'daylight' feel.

Have you looked at Fired Earth colours? I have White Mulberry in a few rooms.

In our bedroom, which is relatively dark, it appears a coolish off white, but when the sun shines in that room it really glows a beautiful warm cream colour. Its really gorgeous and chalky.

treedelivery · 07/05/2010 21:23

OOOO that sounds lovely. Let me look at it now.

Tree, just found this picture of a kitchen painted in James White.

treedelivery · 07/05/2010 21:30

I love it. Also chalk white and 100 others.
