Neighbours building an extension. What do I need to ask?

Our neighbours are coming round with their architect on Thursday eve to discuss the ground floor extension that they are planning to build.

Does anyone have any tips of what I should ask about?

My main concerns are what hours the builders will be here, how long it will take and whether it will cause any extra shade to our house and garden.

We are terraced by the way.

Any tips from those of you who have gone through this experience gratefully received!

We're on the other side of this (namely building an extension), so can only offer advice from the extension-builder's point of view. Your questions all sound sensible ones, and they are ones our neighbours asked. They also asked about whether it would affect their drainage, so if that's an issue, you could do likewise. Are there any party walls involved? There are in our project, and you would have to give written consent in that case.

However, our neighbours are also asking lots of niggly things like whether we will pay someone to clean their windows. I would avoid asking that kind of question!

We're building so I can only say what our neighbours have asked. They asked about shade being cast, about how long work would take, would there be a regular project manager on site who could be there to answer any concerns.

They were also concerned about the fence which has nothing to do with the extension!!!

check if any new windows will affect your privacy.
