How can you find out if land floods?

Looking to self build and would like to check out if any of the plots we are interested in are in flood zones and we're not sure how to find out. Is there some sort of website we should look at or should we contact the local authority in the area?

Try this?

Environment agency only really covers rivers and sea flooding, equally important is the surface water flooding that caused so much damage (in Hull for example, ie where the drains totally failed).

Ask your solicitor to obtain a specialist flood report. They cost about 20 quid and cover all the different types of flooding and also provide basic info about whether the property is insurable for flooding.

Also raise written enquiries of the landowners before buying.

Said thanks for that but we're in Scotland.

Batteryhuman thanks for the advice well certainly make sure Solicitor checks it out.

Ideally we would like to check out online or with a phone call before even visiting the land so we don't waste time.
