Quarry tiles on stairs

LadyThompson · 23/04/2010 16:30

We have got these in our entrance hall and there is a shower room off it. We are going to continue the quarry tiles in there (nasty lino at the mo). However, there are two steps to get up to the shower room. What do you put on the ends of the steps to make them look neat? All I can find are horrid industrial aluminium stair lips, which aren't suitable for a country cottage...any help/ideas appreciated.

There are special tiles for stairs that have a sort of hanging lip. We've used them in hosue we have in Spain. I'm sure they must exist here though.

not very helpful, is it?

LadyThompson · 23/04/2010 20:56

Actually, I managed to find the site (thanks Vacaloca) but it doesn't seem that they supply to UK. I have spent most of the afternoon trying to find the equivalent here - googling every combo I could think of - but to no avail! Is there ANYONE who has done this in the UK?

You could always get a couple of tilers round to give you a quote. They will be able to discuss options with you.

You can put a wooden edge - that's what we're doing.

With quarry tiles you should be able to get a stonecutter to make you a matching stone edge - it looks much neater. We've done this where the floors are stone.

LadyThompson · 24/04/2010 17:20

Are you making your own wooden edge, getting someone to make it for you or did you buy it - if so, where from?

Meantime, I will google 'stonecutters' in my local area...

I bought it, but am in france so not helpful I'm afraid.

You can definatly buy the edging tiles. They've often got ridges on them.

LadyThompson · 24/04/2010 17:35

Thank you people. But I have looked and looked and looked. I have searched every tile supplier you can think of, and nothing...

That might be the type of thing to use, I'd ring a supplier and ask for advice.

You are very clever, Mumsnetters. I TOLD DP that someone on here would know what to do. Ace.
