Moving to Manchester - Top Tips for Smooth Removal Please

Following on from my 'Moving to Manchester - where should we go?' thread, the move appears to be coming together (yet to exchange contracts, but days away - I hope).

We are lucky enough to have The Packers coming and a professional removal company, but I've never done a big move, with children.

Its goint to be a 3 day process. And DP will be working on days 1 and 3 (and 4) of that process. So I will have 3 children in school and the youngest getting under foot most probably.

Please share with me your top tips. Previous moves (before children) have usually involved laundry bags and several taxi trips ...

I do appreciate that the title of this thread sounds as though it should be about hair removal

Oh dear, is everyne ignoring you?

Right, well, good move to get the packers, but make sure you put everything you need NOT packed to one side before they come, and throw out stuff you don't want moved. They are like Ninjas - blink and they've packed it, and I ended up unpacking half empty tins of baked beans (literally) at the other end.

My other top tip is to arrange an online supermarket delivery to arrive at your new gaff on moving in day, rather than having to think about going out shopping when you get there or finding stuff in the packing hell. Include somethign that is easy peasy to cook for the first night or two (or get a takeaway).

Many of the removal companies do good lists online of all the people you need to contact and checklists for packing and moving.

Good luck!

Thank you Midnightexpress. Don't feel so lonely now

Am dreading the sifting of stuff prior to packers! Will definately do a shop for the day - wine will be on top of the list!

Thanks
