I need another rant...

Our never-ending house hunt continues.

We booked to see a house today at 3pm so rather than going out for the day we have to stay at home.

We get to the house and it looks like a tip from the outside. Nothing like the EA pictures. I have a vague memory of it being for sale last year and suspect it is being rented now. We ring the door and eventually a child comes to the door, looks at us and walks away. This is repeated 3 times by different children. Then a woman with a dog that looks like an illegal breed and it starts snarling and snapping. Woman has no idea who we are. She agrees to ring some bloke and comes back out to say appointment cancelled - grrrrrrrrrrrr! DH stomps to the car fuming, slamming the door etc which isn't great since I have the start of a migraine.

When we get home we ring EA who is unapologetic and says they rang DH's work mobile which has been on most of the day. They didn't even ask if we'd like to reschedule. What's that about.

DH reckons I should view it in the only couple of hours I have free this week (which aren't free really because I'm supposed to be studying.

I could just scream. I have really had enough of it all. It has been going on forever.

So I'm off now to leaflet for the 4th time...

I'd write to head office and tell them that their attitude is unacceptable and due to their unprofessional nature they have lot a potential sale and in future you will not be dealing with them.

HerHonesty · 17/04/2010 19:31

sounds like a series of very good signs to walk away.

Plink · 17/04/2010 19:37

I can't believe that estate agent's attitude! Def. agree with Thediary, write to head offic.

The HO thing won't work because a) it's a small independent chain and b) they had actually left a message, not this morning as they claimed but at 2.45. Somehow it took several hours to arrive. Evenso, we were in the car by then, and not with DH's work phone. I still can't be bothered with viewing it though. The EA details make it look really funky-do, very state of the art, and yet it looked like this family had trashed it. I reckon the photos are old ones.

I did do some leafletting - 2 hours in really hot sunshine. I spent the last half an hour dehydrated, needing the loo and hobbling with blistered feet - moi, unfit?

I wish I could just fast-forward to when we are in our new house. We've been in limbo for such a long time.

You know, I don't expect a reponse, I'm just off-loading!

We're still waiting for the vendor to decide when we may view the house - what sort of attitude is that?

We've had no response from the leaflettin either :-( I've done it so often home-owners probably think 'I've seen that before so it must be from an estate agent'.

We spent most of last year house-hunting. The number of people who mess you about, aren't there for arranged viewings, don't even bother leaving a note outside, or still appear to have their house advertised for sale months after it's been sold/rented - unbelievable. We ended up deciding if we had a hit rate of managing to view half the places we set out to view, we were doing OK (to make us feel less frustrated).

On the plus side we found our house, and now I'm in it! So keep going and one day you'll get there.

NoseyNooNoo · 19/04/2010 10:51

Thanks Marine. Unfortunately houses come up around here so infrequently, about once a month, that we really do want to see everything that comes up.

I'm still driving past the house I loved but were outbid on in December - still SOLD, STC. I keep hoping the sale falls through!

Pop a note through the door saying that if the sale falls through you are waiting in the wings

If you are in a good position to move put that on the note too.

You never know.

NoseyNooNoo · 19/04/2010 15:15

Well I thought of doing that but the vendor knows our position very well and he is very good friends with the EA, i.e. the local EA who seems to not want us to buy anywhere on his patch. He specifically didn't seem to want us to buy that house, perhaps because he himself lives in that road and doesn't like us much.

The vendor from the house we didn't see on Saturday is still considering when they may grant us the privilege of viewing their house - like we'd want to buy a house from them - can you imagine how painful it would be to buy a house from them?

Perhaps some good news!

I had a voice mail from someone regarding the leafletting I did at the weekend. I've had a drive past and it is being renovated at the moment. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Strangley, I looked up it's last sale price. It was sold in July 2009 for 37.5% less than it sold for in November 2008 - which sounds a bit fishy to me. The 2009 price is way too low for that road so I wonder what the story is there. I don't remember it being for sale either.

I can't get hold of the guy now and don't want to chase too much or I'll seem desperate (which I am)!
