Anyone live in Monmouth/ Abergavenny or surrounding area?

My DH's parents live in the area and we are thinking of relocating to be closer to them. I know the area from visits but am sort of canvassing opinions from those who live there (and don't have a vested interest!).

We are moving from a manky town in the SE so it always looks fab to me!

Is the much to do for toddlers? What are the state primaries like etc?

Thanks!

My cousin is a head teacher in Monmouth so there's at least one fantastic school in the area as she wouldn't put up with anything but excellence
I'll email her and find out where the place to be is, she has a 3 and 1 year old herself.

Ooooh fab!

We were there this weekend and saw the Overmonnow Primary school - looks very sweet.

I love it and want to move but DH less keen.

TIA though.

It's beautiful. I went to school in Monmouth and have friends near Abergavenny, I love it around there. The whole area is a lot less crowded than the SE.

I live there. It is a lovely place to live. Good schools, nice restaurants, beautiful countryside and mountains.

What more could you want?

Meant to say that it is very child friendly too. Lots of stuff going on.

Thanks for the info.

DHs parents live outside Raglan but I think that's a step too small for me. I always love it when I visit, fab shops and cafes etc.

The thing is DH is in the Navy so essentially if we move he will always be away during the week so I'd like lots for me to do, bookclubs, yoga etc so I can make friends and friendly nursery/ school, toddler groups. I don't want to rely on DH parents for a life - more just pop over sometimes.

Which are the nice areas to live in and which would you not touch with a barge pole? I've seen some reasonably priced houses in Rolls Ave and around.

I am about to move to the Monmouth area, Raglan to be precise and I have a 5 year old who needs to go into year 1 starting this Septemeber. Raglan VC Primary is full for that year. Does anyone have any recommendations or any tips or schools to avoid or anything really!!!!
