Leaving London - please help!

We're looking for a new beginning out of West London- and have a big wish list... wondering if any of you live anywhere that you'd recommend?!

We're looking for a small town with -

  • 3/4 beds & garden for £400k max (2 must be doubles)
  • 30 mins from any mainline London stn (doesn't matter which one)
  • close to mainline train stn
  • decent schools
  • somewhere with a theatre, swimming pool, decent high street...

Am I dreaming??! Will we be in London forever not able to leave ... possibly because we don't know how lucky we are..?

Sevenoaks! 25 mins to London Bridge, 3 beds for £400k and walking distance to station possible (currently one in our street!).

KSal I definitely like the look of Hitchin, but have heard it can get a bit rough of a Friday night...? Is that right? Or is that the same for everywhere these days?

Epsom/Ewell? 30 mins to Waterloo.

Not sure about house prices there at the moment though.

Brentwood & Chelmsford both nice and lots of good schools. Good transport links to London but nice countryside too!
