Suspending curtains from ceiling - anyone seen this done?

Had someone look at my bay windows for curtains and because of the depth of my windowsill they suggested attaching curtain tracks from ceiling in order to avoid unsightly long brackets protruding from window frame. Has anyone seen this done as I can't quite picture it?

Yes although only on property programmes - looked ok as far as I remember.

Monty100 · 07/04/2010 15:05

Yes, will be ok.

Yes, though maybe not tracks -I've seen the poles from the ceiling.

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2010 15:06

Our house had ceiling curtain track in the bay window - the track was like a C shape and the hooks had a circular bit at the top that went into the track.

Problem was, the hooks always broke. Now we have vertical blinds in both bays which are also ceiling mounted

Although you could put a strip of wood around on the ceiling, and paint white, and then fit the track onto the side of it, so it was still the 'right way' IYSWIM.

You can ceiling mount track, or even recess the track into the ceiling for extra slick look....

maggiethecat · 08/04/2010 00:17

Do you think the extra height will add a bit more oomph?

Don't suppose you're in/near London and can recommend your curtain fitting people please, maggie? Also have a v deep bay...

I've only seen poles hung from the ceiling at a friend's house. Though, I must say it looks fantastic. Good luck with yours, I'm sure it will turn out great with tracks too. Liz

We have this. It is a new build house and the windows went right to the ceiling in the bay window. Handily, the ceiling above the window is 90% buggering metal so attaching the curtain pole there was also a total nigthmare.

What we have is wood painted white attached or the celiing and the curtain pole attached to that with the hoops on the pole. Does that make any sense??

attached TO the ceiling

I have this. Yes it looks fine - very small discreet white track fitted to the ceiling. The curtains are corded. Perfectly happy with it.

PinkPussyCat · 08/04/2010 21:30

Vanitypear - how did you do it? I have this problem with the two windows in my upstairs bedrooms (dormers) and would LOVE some curtains. Currently we only have vertical blinds up there, and the rooms look very 'unfinished'. Any tips/company names would be welcome!

Thanks for your reassurances but tbh I still cannot picture it - think I'm going to check the net to see if I can see anything.

The alternative is to attach tracks to window and use a pelmet to hide brackets (hopefully a very simple pelmet as I'm not keen on the fuss and have an open plan living/dining/kitchen). Will ask if it's possible for the track and pelmet to go right up against the ceiling so that pelmet does not block out too much light.

Awesome, Swags and Tails in Pinner were the ones who had a look. The quote is not cheap and I want to make sure that I would be happy with the look that's why I have not gone ahead with them yet.
