I need inspiration for my living room.

At the moment its pretty bland.

I have a nice flowery wallpaper on the chimney breast which i like with a mirror above it.

Next to the chimney is an alcove which has 2 shelves in it at opposite ends one underneath the other and they kinda meet in the middle. Looks cool..... kinda quirky. The tv is also housed in this alcove.

The rest of the room has no soul at all. The walls are cream which i do like as it ties in with the wall paper. But there are no pictures or art any where. its just so plain and boring. The carpet it cream too however with 2 todlers this isnt really true..... its kinda vile/stained/grungy.

I have new sofas coming soon which are brown leather and will fit in with the kidof sophisticated vibe I want the room to have.

So basicly after all that rambling Im thinking laminate flooring..... dont know how practicle it is with two kids and crayons and toys.... especially as I live in a flat and have neighbours below me.
Im thinking the room also needs help with accesorising in terms of art work, cushions and also the curtains. There is no set coulour scheeme yet so anything that goes with cream/brown will be fine. kinda like the idea of purple.....

but im open to suggestions. Dont have loads of money..... its a decide what im going to do and save for it job..... but its a lovely room but right now its depressingly dull.... i would like to be be grown up and sophisticated so I can invite people over.

Your room sounds lovely

Wooden floors - I love them. Easier to clean and they dont smell like carpets do. Also will go well with your leather sofa.

Colours- the obvious with brown is dark green but a bit boring. I think your purple will be fab.

Artwork- allposters.co.uk have some nice black and white photography and vintage prints. Even better check local markets for vintage art.

Finally get some nice lamps?

Thanks.... i dont have a lot of confidence and find myself dithering a lot even with silly things like picking out accessories.

I love lime green.... it is my favourate colour so perhaps I could go with that as its very fashionable atm and (as silly as it sounds) kinda fills me with nice feelings. (I especially love this time of year because of the beautiful spring green colour against the dark gray of the heavy clouds..... its just amazing!)

I like this purple lamp.... the one with B nest to it.
Also love this one if I went with the green. With both you can get a matching lamp shade for the main light.

I also really like this canvus to go on the wall although actually I did start thinking that perhaps I could go out and shoot some of my own pics to have put on a canvus. Tis the right time of year for the wonderful colours.
Also really liking this I have a small gap about 1m wide which is screaming out for somethign to make the space.

Lol will take a while as I think I would be able to afford to buy one thinng a mmonth if theyre about £30.

Still need to think of a sollution for the window dressing though. I have curtains at the mo which are this horrible cheepo silk in cream. (cost £20 a pair and I still had no money when I moved in so grabbed them.) The kids have totally trashed them. so im not sure if to replace them with something darker and more suitable with the kids or put up blinds. Just a bit concerned that taking the carpet and the curtains away will make the room very harsh.

God knows..... Would just really like a nice grownup living room.

Spooky, Wilkinsons have great and reasonably priced accessories and curtains...I've just been dreaming looking at the catalogue and I believe they have even more online.

spookycharlotte121 · 05/04/2010 00:55

ooooh yes. I forgot about wilkinsons. I got some wallpaper from there a while back similar to some in b&q but with a £20 difference in price

Spooky, i dont know if this is any use for you but i have a code for Homebase, 15percent off for over £50 the code is DISC15. But it is only 9-11 April.

If some posters want to bump until spooky sees it...

Purple sounds nice.
How about wooden venetian blinds and then keep the curtains to soften it a bit?
