basement anyone done it?

so since it looks like we'll never have a house next option is to have half one however garden a must so not possible to extend unless we go down.

Has anyone dug their basement out? was it a nightmare? happy to give a cost guesstimate? how long did it take? were you able to live there?

I haven't done it but gather from estate agents it costs about £100k, or more if you live there while they're doing it (as then they can't access through rest of house).

Cheaper if you start off with large natural cellar/good head height of course.

In other words it is Not Cheap.
