Range cookers - can you buy anything else?

I am planning out a refit of our not-very-big kitchen. I have a big, cheap range cooker at the moment and I begrudge it the space - as far as I can see a good double oven slot in cooker like this Cannon would provide everything it offers and leave more room for cupboards. I really do want a gas double oven so not inclined to built-in.

Somehow a small freestanding cooker like that looks really cheap and dated - on the property programmes they always dwell pityingly on beige plastic sinks and small cookers "of course this needs upgrading". Does anyone have a normal sized cooker any more? Have I just been swayed by aspirational kitchen adverts too much?

Have no idea why I should care what people think but interested in opinions.... DH has vetoed belfast sink so I am running out of ways to tart up my kitchen.

I know what you mean- a freestanding cooker does look a bit dated. There are plenty of normal size built in/under cookers around though, so as long as you choose a cooker with reasonably contemporary styling, I don't think it would be a disaster.

What style og kitchen are you going for? if modern, you could go for something in stainless steel like this: www.johnlewis.com/230430273/Product.aspx if traditional perhaps a more traditional looking cooker like this: www.johnlewis.com/230491739/Product.aspx

For some reason, I think white would look cheap so I'd steer clear of that.

Thanks - those are a couple of good looking ones.

Style - undecided, it is a country cottage house but trying not to go overboard with the twiddly country look. Either of those would do fine.
