Hammer drill

Hi folks, quick question...

I'm trying to drill a hole in my Yorkshire stone walls (external). I'm using a 24v old Woolworths hammer drill (although not sure if the hammer thing is working) with a 6mm masonry bit but getting nowhere. Any tips?

Is your drill bit sharp enough? It makes a huge difference if it's blunt.

You'll be able to hear if the hammer drill bit is working, it's a lot louder than an ordinary drill noise. If it's not working then you will have more trouble getting in the wall.

Have you got it switched to hammer setting? Might be a switch on it somewhere.
If hammer isn't working it won't go in!

You might want a new drill.
