Roman blinds or 'proper' curtains... am driving myself mad!

Have been talking/ thinking myself round in circles about this for weeks & am boring myself, so have now decided to let you wise & stylish people decide instead.

Am finally getting the living room re-decorated and part of the plan is curtains, which are currently non-existent.

Question is this:

Do 'proper' curtains (i.e. those with pleats at the top) look a bit old-fashioned or formal, if the look I'm (hopefully!) going for is quite relaxed & casual? We can't have a curtain pole & tab top curtains because it's a big bay window with not enough room at the top (IYSWIM).

Other option is roman blinds, but we'd have to get 6 of them for the different window panes in the bay. Not sure if that many would look a bit odd.

Does that make any sense at all?!

What do you think?

We had a bay with four windows and no room for curtains - two level with each other and two at angles. We had Roman blinds - one for each window and it looked great. Why don;t you get a fitter to come and look at the window and give you some quotes? Then nick their ideas even if you don't go with them. They might have some inovative solutions if you choose an interesting maker.

I'd go Roman.
