Flex your inner interior designer: tell me what colour to paint my bedroom!

Just stripped all the horrible old wallpaper off our bedroom walls. Can't decide what colour to paint the walls - inspire me!

The room currently looks like this:
Bed (in oak satin finish

Bedside cabinets - shiney dark burgundy red plastic (nicer than they sound!)

Bed linen - one set is white and grey, other set is multi-coloured reds, oranges, pinks and purples

Curtains - plain deep red

Carpet - beige-ish

Is white walls boring or would it look nice and fresh? A warm grey? A mushroomy colour? Or would that look dirty? Please unleash your inner interior designer!

Is it south facing? Do you get sunlight?

If so, I'd go white. We use Dulux White Cotton, as close to white as ou can get but not Brilliant White, IYSWIM.

It's west-facing, so we get the evening sun. Big window, so it's fairly light. Hm, one vote for white, thanks taffetacat - any other thoughts?

White

Dulux Natural Hessian is a warm creamy beige. Could you be tempted to try a deep red feature wall behind the bed?

Wigeon · 16/03/2010 21:04

Hm, maybe...would it look really dated in about 5 years though?!

It's only paint, you can change it in a couple of hours and the price of a pot of paint.I've just done mine in sage green, with the rest of the walls in cream, and it looks really fresh

White and put up a nice big print of a pic you like.

tootootired · 16/03/2010 21:18

White or a neutral off white with those other colours I'd say. I like pale grey but can't see it with your bright bedlinens.

I think white is the front runner then - thank you everyone!

We do have lots of pictures we could put up on the walls so maybe I just need to go with white and all the other things in the room will make it feel jolly enough!

We have just been to Homebase and got.....

(warm) white paint!

Now just got to wait for the plaster to fully dry. Thanks again for the advice.
