so i've read conflicting info about using this material as a kitchen worktop, so was wondering if there was anyone out there who actually has it and can tell me if the staining is an issue?

Yes, it was lovely.

On the upside it has lots of quartzy light reflecting properties so it helps your kitchen seem larger and sunnier. It's brilliant for making pastry because it's cool.

On the downside it needs sealing before you can use it because it's quite absorbent. Once it's sealed you only need to beware of acidic things like red wine (just wipe it off quickly). Also it is quite soft & scratches easily. You need chopping boards and to be careful not to drop anything sharp or heavy on it. If you do scratch it, you can get a stone polisher in who can fix it in about 2 minutes but costs £40.

I had it for seven years and had to get a polisher in once to take out a long scratch and a yellow stain of moss killer (!) both caused by ex-boyfriend.

So if you have considerate partner and friends who take notice when you say "please be careful of red wine" then go for it.

I got rid of arrogant thoughtless boyfriend.
