Arrrgh

We sold at the bottom of the market last year and have been renting ever since

Every house we have wanted to buy went within days to sealed bids etc. We were gaumped on one. Every house we didn't want has hung around for months.

Have just tried to arrange a viewing on a house that came onto the market last week only to be told by a very stroppy estate agent that they are not accepting any more viewings and will be making a decision on the offers they already have.

It all just feels wrong. I know it's all down to a lack of supply but I can't see what it going to happen to suddenly make people sell.

We will be renting forever

Have you spoken to all your local agents and given them you finance details, pushing the fact that you can move quickly and asking that they call you if anything comes in? That might enable you to beat the rush? Otherwise round my way some seem to take a while to sell but generally there is very little on the market.

Yes, they all have our details. One of them told me last year though that more or less everybody on their books is in our position.

Those people who need to sell aren't moving so it's just the cash buyers fighting it out for the few properties about.

Do you mind me asking where (roughly) you are? SE?

West Midlands. We want a period 4 bedroom detached that needs a bit of work.

So does everyone else apparently!

Wait I'd say.there is a flood of properties coming on here in the SE now as there has been a spike in prices back to 07 levels and everyone is trying to cash in but it is beginning to back fire a bit and soon there will be an over supply! Once interest rates rise and banks tighten up again prices should fall. The current price rises are not built on strong fundamentals at all

You haven't sold at the bottom of the market - we haven't seen any proper falls yet! Hang on in there and don't feel pressured into buying. It seems that people are holding off putting their property onto the market but that should change come the spring!

noddyholder · 01/03/2010 22:36

I agree with minty we haven't seen the bottom yet we were on our way there but QE and low IRs halted it and even reversed it!

mumof9 · 01/03/2010 22:53

Wait till the GBP collapse really starts and interest rates rise. Mortgage payments will become unaffordable for many and prices will PLUMMET. This is happening right now. The pound has jst lost ~10% vs the USD in the last 4 weeks.

I think there will be further falls
