John Lewis have a really good selection of fabric etc but not sure how expensive they are.

My house has very big windows. In our bedroom, we have very cheap, standard ikea curtains which are made long enough so that might be worth a look if you want quite simple. Ours are chocolate coloured cotton but they do cream and other colours too.

We had some made through Laura Ashley made-to-measure. They are lovely, took about a month to arrive, but were £££ even with the 33% off that we got.

I would go to a fabric specialist - there is a town with an Indian community about 15 miles from us that has a few brilliant fabric places.

Then find a local upholsterer/curtain maker to do it for you. We have one that advertises in our local freebie parish magazine, but also a few mums at school are nifty with a sewing machine. Might be worth asking around?

Miles cheaper and much more choice than the big stores.

Thanks have seen a site called curtains 24/7 which seems reasonable- last set were laura ashley cost £££ ashamed to say they have been up 11 years (have been cleaned several times)
