Haggling advice, please

Just posted this without a title!

We are on the point of buying a Wickes kitchen which we're very pleased with. It's on the 50% off deal, which seems good, with an extra 15% off. I've seen posts on here, however, which suggest that even with these deals one ought to haggle. I am feeble about things like this and would be embarrassed even to try it unless I thought that that's what everyone does and it's expected. When we were quoted the price I asked if trade would get it cheaper and he said this was the best price even they would get. This isn't including the fitting, by the way, which we're organising ourselves.

Any advice?

I got a prcie from Wickes. Without too much effort I got them to knock another 10% off. I understand if you ask to speak to the manager then this can help matters. Have you got any quotes for the same design. I used this to negotiate mine down further.

I believe once you get to the bottom price you can then start getting extras thrown in. I got a free sink.

Thank you, Cece. I'm also wondering about Benchmarx, as others here seem to have had success with them. They have exactly the same kitchen as 'our' Wickes one so I'm guessing we may be able to get it cheaper there if we go through our builder.

That is where we bought ours in the end. I took the very best Wickes price wnich beat the first Benchmarx price back to Benchmarx. They then beat that!

Nice work, Cece! From that it doesn't sound as though the two places are wildly dissimilar in price. Were these 'trade' prices?

The Benchmarx man had to talk to my builder before he gave me any prices. Presumably he was asking him what cut/% he wanted to take...
