Hi, I have seen a few properties priced at £160k and wonder if an offer of £148k is reasonable or totally laughable? I am a complete novice when it comes to buying a house so don't have a clue! Thanks for any advice.

What have nearby properties sold for? And how recently? And are they comparable ie same state of repair/modernisation etc? I'd be guided by that but, no, don't think 148k is laughable. It's only an offer, they an always say no.

You can but try - your offer is the start of negotiations.
Best to start low and then go up and you'll end up it he middle

start 145 with room for movement. Are you prepared to pay asking price?

Also are you in a position to move straightaway? Any chain behind you? The more you have to offer the lower you can go in.
