Ever had your radiators 'balanced'?

Ours are patchy. Some are quite hot, some tepid but venting them produces water immediately so it isn't an air lock problew. I have read that one can 'balance' them but you need to know the order they are installed in and work your way sytematically around them and you need to be able to measure a 12 degree difference between the inlet and outlet... Ooer!

Presumably you get a pro in but has anyone done this?

yep... plumber did it but he explained to me how to do it.

it basically means your boiler isn't strong enough so just turn them all on a tiny bit (once you decode the jargon he spouted at me)

our boiler is so shite though the last radiator doesn't come on unless most of the others are off completely

i had to do mine, it just means turning down the really hot ones, to balance out the colder ones.

EdgarAllenSnow · 12/02/2010 19:49

yep - Dh researched it on a diy site and was all pleased with himself for having done it. The point being DS sleeps in the kitchen which is the last radiator on the loop, and it now gets noticably warmer.

now he wants Thermostatic valves...

lucykate · 12/02/2010 20:08

got to ask EAS, your ds sleeps in the kitchen?

EdgarAllenSnow · 12/02/2010 20:20

bless his cotton pants, yes he does. there's no chance of him reaching anything inappropriate from his cot. 3 years in this house, and the kiddies bedroom still not finished...(DD is in with us, she may have grown out of hitting him by the time we let them share...)

nowwearefour · 13/02/2010 11:25

we got a plumber who was doing some other stuff in our hosue to do it. worked a treat. the previously cold parts of the house now nice and toasty....

I must chip in here, do NOT get thermostatic valves, they are rubbish. They have settings from 0 to 5, but they might as well just have on or off for all the difference it makes.
