Talk to me about Velux windows

We are having our loft conversion done. Two veluxes have been put up. Are the velux black-out blinds easy to fit yourself and what in addition to the blind itself do you need?

hi we have 3 veluxes in our loft. DH fitted the blinds himself and said the first one was a bit tricky but once he had the hang of it the 2nd two were up in no time.

He normally swears and stamps during diy but didn't at all so must be ok!

We ordered blackout blinds from a company on the internet- googled cheapest velux blinds and it came up but can't remember what it was called.They were about 50 quid each.

The windows have a code on them and you put it in and choose the colour and that's that no measuring.

We have the regular blackout blinds but have friends with the double layer ones where you end up with a sort of net/mesh layer under the blackout thing which you can use separately.

Whats the point of the net / mesh layer?

I think it acts like a net curtain- giving privacy but lets in light. No one can see into our windows though so we don't need them.

We have velux windows in our loft conversion and fitted the black out blinds with ease, haven't bothered with the mess stuff as no one can see in !

Dont need anything else with the windows really .

the blinds are very easy to fit - do search the internet for cheapest. Do not buy from the Velux website - you will find genuine velux blinds alot cheaper elsewhere.

I originally made a mistake of buying some blinds for velux windows off ebay - not genuine ones and they really were shoddy and went back.
