Was told our system needs it as the water in it is so dirty it is producing hydrogen .

Quote for job £592

Anyone had this done?

I had mine done last week in Hackney. 6 rads on two floors it cost £280.+vat.

the guy said 12 rads would cost about £380+vat.

apparently you should get it done every 5-10 years . I think may rads are hotter afterwards, but the reason I had it done was because my boiler was having problems because it was gunked up. British gas homecare gave me a quote too and it was at least 75% more than the local plumber

We just paid about £350 for 12 radiators in South London. Can give you name of lovely plumber if you're round here!

thanks for your replies-good to know
what's 380 +vat make? about 445?

we have 11 rads so 592 seems a bit steep..we are on south coast awesomewellies -shame

will shop around I think

I paid a lot of money to have mine done last winter because of "sludge". Following the flush the radiators were a lot better but this winter they are worse than ever. It was a waste of money for us.

In addition, now two of my radiators have developed holes and are leaking (don't know if this is related to the power flush)and we are looking at getting all our radiators replaced. Admittedly the radiators are old but we would have been better getting that done last year and not spending money on the power flush.

In summary it probably depends on the age of your rads, ask the plumber what is the likelihood of the problem coming back (you need to make sure they add the correct chemicals to the system after the flush).

british gas man said as we are homecare customers we could get any old rads replaced free when doing the powerflush so maybe the quote is worth it, although we only have 4 older rads , rest were replaced about 5 yrs ago.
