Do I really need an 8 seater garden table or will a 6 seater do?

We are moving to a place with a large garden. I need to buy a garden table and chairs set. There are 5 of us in my family. So I figured that with having friends around, we would need an 8 seater. But the choices are so much more limited with 8 seaters and they are very pricey. Will I regret getting a 6 seater?

yes i have the same prob with my 5 person family, when any visitors come it's either sit on laps time or a huge squeeze, neither ideal

Go for the larger size, much nicer if you people round.
An extendable one would be good but not sure if you can get these for the garden.

I thought I the answer would be go for the 8 seater. OK then. Yes, I am looking online. The cheapest I have seen so far is this which is extendable.

I would go for the 8 seater if you have a 5 person family. Just 1 spare seat at the table isn't enough.

I would go 8 to 10 seater if you are already 5. We are 4 and have an 8 seater in our kitchen which is fab. One other family round for lunch and its full........

We haven't got our outdoor seating sorted yet but will def go big again.

Do you def want wood? I saw a funky looking metal/aluminium one in a B and Q ad a while back, can't remember how big it was but it was very reasonable.

How about an 8 seater with a bench on one side, as you can fit more people/kids on a bench than separate chairs?

Watch out, though - sturdily built 8 seater wooden tables are incredibly heavy. As in, DH and I have no chance of getting the table to cover over winter without another couple of people to assist.

Good point about it being heavy. But I am not sure when we would have to move it ever. I didn't think we would do anything to it over the winter except leave it where it was.
