Does anyone have a house in france that they rent out as a holiday house?

If so, would you recommend it?

I don't but my sister lives out there permanently and knows people out there who do rent out their homes. Thoughts:

In many areas there is an oversupply of rental property so getting enough people in to make it pay for itself can be tricky.

What are the transport links to the area like? If it is served by a regional airport can you be sure that the likes of Easyjet will continue flying there.

What attractions around will attract sufficient tourists

French bureaucracy is a nightmare and although many locals ignore it, foreigners do so at their peril

How will you manage looking after the property? Who will clean it between guests, check for damage/repairs, etc? Will you be able to get a plumber/electrician in quickly to do things if necessary. (We know of one visitor who left bath to overflow causing loads of damage which all had to be repaired quickly and the incoming guests had to have alternative accommodation found and compensation)

France is a huge country so you really need to do your homework about the area you wish to purchase in as the situation (and financial costs) vary tremendously.

Hope this helps
