How do you match wooden flooring when only some rooms have it.....

The flat we are moving to has lovely wooden flooring in the hallway and lounge, but carpet in the bedroom which we plan to take up. We want to put down wooden flooring in those rooms too, but don't want it to clash with what is already in the hallway. What do we do? Do we go for something totally different? Or do we try to match?

It's probably a fairly common wood - oak/walnut/beech etc - so have a look at some floor suppliers and see what comes close. You can always stain the wood a couple of shades - the important thing is to get the grain and width the same - and put those metal door things on the threshold between rooms that don't "match" exactly.

If you do the same width and grain you could always sand the whole lot back and restain/restian the whole lot. Would be lots of work though.
