Moving to North Yoorkshire

We currently live in WEST Oxon & due t my family being around York area & us just having had 3rd DC we are thinking about a move 'up North'! Our house has just got too small & we could afford something bigger there but not where we are. DH could transfer his job reasonably easily to Leeds area, my parents live around Easingwold area of York and we are trying to work out where we can live. It has to be commutable to East Leeds (with 45 mins), within 30 mins of North York, a village/rural (have a dog) with a good primary school.

We like the area North of York, but also going across Harrogate / Knaresborough / Thirsk directions.

Also, our eldest DD is in preschool here (she is 3), how doesthis work in North Yorks, ours is attached to a school (on site) and offers all days sessions & runs morning and afterschool clubs with the main school - is this unusual? The afterschool club certainly would come in handy when I return to work.

Can anyone help with some suggestions?

Ooh Dwayne we lived in Whixley for a while We rented many moons ago when I was teaching in Thirsk and DH was at college in Horsforth. It probably wasn't the right place to be in our early 20s but now with a family would be fab.

There are some beautiful villages around there and Boroughbridge - if DH wasn't tied to his business here we'd move there in a shot.

Harrogate is a lovely place to bring up children, with lots of good schools, especially high schools.

lovely park, lots of good shopping, easy to get to Leeds, (Rail and bus).

I can really recommend Strensall, and not just because our house is for sale! (I think it would be too small for you though)
It is a small village, great for dog-walking, fantastic primary school with pre-school attached, 25 minutes on the bus into York, 15 minutes from Easingwold, and about 45 minutes from East Leeds.
