Any one done part exchange with Barratts or similar?

We would like to move and the part exchange that some building companies offer seems quite good.

I've looked at the small print and I know the offers are quite subjective, our house would have to meet their criteria etc but it looks quite hassle free

Anyone have any advice or similar experiences please?

They will offer you a rubbish price, and then may chip again later after the survey. Subject to that, it is quite hassle free!

My cousin did a number of years ago. He was relocating and renting near the new place whilst everything was going through. Before completion his parents popped into the old house to pick up post etc only to find someone else already moved in and ripping out his kitchen . What would have happened if he'd had to pull out for some reason heaven only knows. Never did find out how they were able to do it as the sale hadn't completed, but he wouldn't repeat the experience again, plus the build quality was so poor and it took so long to sort it out he moved within 18mths.

Barratts then wouldn't allow "for sale" notices to go up as they were still trying to sell the remaining properties on the development and were trying to disguise the fact that many of the residents were trying to sell within a short period of moving in.

Hopefully they have improved their business practices since then but I would still be wary.
