Has anyone rented out their home for just six months?

We have to move for a few months for personal reasons - I want to keep it to a minimum but estate agents are telling me it will be very difficult to let our home for just six months. Has anyone ever tried this or needed a home for just a few months? How difficult was it?

6 months is the minimum tenancy, I think, and 12 months is standard. But I think you can give notice (2 months) for tenants to leave after 4 months, which would give you your 6 months.
So, don't tell people your intent? Lthough I know of people who needed 6 months to bridge a house sale/purchase, and someone else whose own home flooded and the insurance company funded the rental for the (6 month) duration of repairs.
Of course the estate agents will try to put you off. Is in their interests for a longer-term let.

Mine was let for 6 months to our first tenants while they looked to buy. My letting agent only does 6 month tenancies and then it rolls on from there on a monthly basis.

That's what I suspected re: estate agents' self-interest. Might try putting it on gumtree with big "SIX MONTHS ONLY" kicker and see if I get any response.
