Do you have an Ikea Loft Bed (Tromso) with desk?

Tried posting in Products (Beds) but to no avail. Does anyone have any experience of the Ikea Tromso Loft Bed, with a desk underneath? Thinking of buying one for DS. How sturdy is it?

don't know about the loft bed, but friends have the tromso bunk bed and find it very sturdy.

Lucykate - thanks

Anyone else?

We don't have this exact model but do have an Ikea loft bed for our 12 yr old dd which is very sturdy.

We've got the Tromso for DD, but without the desk. It seems fine to me. DH (who's normally very paranoid about the sturdiness of bunk beds) is happy with how strong it is.

Thanks for all the feedback, sounds like a good buy.

Hi, I might be too late to post this, but I would not recommend buying it.
We have just got one. The idea seems great, the shelf and desktop underneath are great, BUT... the bed is terrible!
It is very unstable, it wobbles all over the place. We have our 4 year old son in it, plus me sometimes, and I'm a small person. We have it in a corner, but it could easily sway 4inches to the other side, if we weren't careful! Also, the ladder squeeks and creaks, we've had to tape felt bits under the prongs attached to the bed, otherwise it makes noices at the smallest movement.
It's like sleeping in some old coach on a bumpy road!
We have double checked every bolt and tightened it all up, no better.
It will have to go back to the store.
Apparantely, these loft beds are being discountinued. Ikea are getting new beds in in April 2010, I would wait until then.
All the best, Emma

Hmmm... I wonder why our one is so unstable, it feels quite dangerous. We have the double version of this bed, 140cm wide.
I have seen other complaints about unstable loft beds on the net, though, maybe it's down to which batch you get?

Glitterola · 19/02/2010 12:21

Sorry, me again! There is another issue: it can get very hot up there, a couple of feet from the ceiling. It's good in the winter but I wonder what this will be like in summer?

serenity · 19/02/2010 12:33

As I said on my post before, ours is fine (but it's a single, not the double) Might just be the one you've got? No idea about what it's like in the summer though, as we got ours last autumn.

FYI Glitterola, checked the status of the Tromso when I went to work (in case it was being discontinued for a specific reason, ie manufacturers giving us shoddy stock or whatnot) and it's being discontinued in the silver, and being replaced with a white version (which you can get now, or at least you can in my store) Same bed, different colour is all

I'm a bit peeved actually, as I think white would look better in DDs room, and I'm actually planning on repainting the one we've got. Phooey.

Should say that I work at IKEA, otherwise that post seems rather random!

zazen · 20/02/2010 01:41

can't you bring it back to IKEA within 90 days?

Am looking at beds with interest as DC has outgrown the cotbed.

serenity · 20/02/2010 02:05

Had it longer than 90 days, but yes you can, with the receipt (but not mattresses)
