How much, good points, bad points, can you have one if you have a cat who jumps around like an idiot all night long (I'd like one that I can turn on at night when we're at home), etc. Thank you.

We have a burglar alarm & we can set the entire house when we go out or just the downstairs when we go to bed< DH leaves for work at the crack of dawn & he re-sets the downstairs as he leaves so that I feel secure whilst DS & I are sleeping upstairs. I imagine you can get alarms where you can isolate certain rooms/areas so when you are home at night you can just have the alarm on the rooms you are not using. I would have thought your cat walking around the hosue may set the alarms off, but am unsure & hope others pipe in to answer correectly. I love having an alarm.

Thanks househunting

TBH I am willing to get rid of the cat.

Maybe I'd have to lock her in one room at night?

We have an ADT alarm that automatically calls the police if they cannot rouse one of us or a neighbour when it goes off - we pay £25 a month for that and it also covers sending in the fire brigade if the fire alarm goes off and no one picks up the phone.

You can isolate certain rooms or just have upstairs or downstairs on and there are contacts on all the doors and tremor thingys on the windows in case someone tries to smash one.

ADT are fab for coming and servicing it often - which is all in the £25 and for that you also get a panic button on the fob which sets your alarm which if you press no sound is made but the police are sent immediately.

The system is wireless too so no need for your deocrating to be re done when it is fitted.

Thanks Mme, sounds good. Can I be nosy and ask what the installation fee was?

Was not huge and I think you can bargain them down - they are more concerned with you signing up - that is where they make their money on the £25.

Just google ADT and they will send someone round to talk you through it - our salesman guy was really nice and didn't pressure us at all.

If you do sign up and are in the South East you have to tell them that you do not under any circumstances want someone called Ronnie who works for them to enter your house!

Thanks. LOL at Ronnie. Did he do an enormous poo or something?
