hi.

we have a lovely big back garden which at the min is just an overgrown tip - we moved in and spent all the money doing up the house.

so now im in a position to do something with the rear garden (we decided not to move!)- does anyone know of any good design websites out there?

im crap with plants. i have no knowledge or experience at all with gardens. i just know that this year i want to go out and enjoy the garden!

its a large upside down L shape - we have a knackered out garage which for the time being will have to stay put - causing the L shape! - but im hoping i can do something with the rest of it.

does anyone know of a good garden design site out there ont'net?
ta!

Try the gardening topic in talk - i'm sure there are loads of people over there who will know of some sites.

I have done loads of research/reading/web browsing, as out garden was also a total tip when we moved in and quite large.
I have found that borrowing garden design books from the local library, and buying them cheaply from Amazon/charity shops is much better than any gardening websites.

Sites I do use/have used for ideas/inspiration:

www.shootgardening.co.uk/

www.turning-earth.co.uk/index.html

www.rhs.org.uk/

And yes do look at the Gardening section, there are some good posts on there.

Also worth trying to find a really good jobbing gardener who can advise re suitable plants and help with clearance/planting etc.

er I posted three website links in my previous post, doubt you'll get anymore from the Gardening section.
You're welcome btw...

As always, I agree with Pannacotta.

Go to the library, not to a website. Frankly, don't bother asking here, either!

What you want is a book with ready made garden plans that you can adapt. You want to have the overall garden plans plus the detailed planting plans for each bed. You can get the planting plans and garden plans from separate books.

This one is well recommended:
www.amazon.co.uk/Small-Garden-C-Lucas-Phillips/dp/071122482X

This might be useful:
www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Plans-Small-Gardens-Ready-made/dp/1845332067/ref=pd_cp_b_3

Note that these both say 'Small Garden' - that's because I suspect that in gardening terms, you have a small garden
