New Forest or Dorchester?

We're moving south from Manchester in the summer for DH to start a new teaching job (which he doesn't have yet). After having researched Fordingbridge to the Nth degree and decided to look for a job within 30 miles of there, DH has now spotted a job in Dorchester (at the Thomas Hardye School) which he really really wants to apply for.

The chances are he won't get it as I imagine competition will be fierce if it's such a good school, but he would need to be prepared to accept it if he's going to apply for it. Unfortunately DH isn't keen on a 1hr each way journey to work so still moving to Fordingbridge wouldn't be an option.

Whilst Dorchester does look nice, it's just a bit further away from the New Forest, London and family (West Wellow, Woking, Chichester) than I would have liked. Plus I've read that getting DC (8&5) into the good schools would be difficult as they are very popular.

So overall I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed about switching my focus so would appreciate some postive vibes about Dorchester please and how easy it is to get DC into the schools and what a great move it could be.

Or even some suggestions of a compromise place to live that would be inbetween and just as nice. Thanks.
