Tell me that the cold is making me delusional

but I swear that my AEG lavamat washing machine stopped working as soon as the big freeze started! It sits in the garage along with the tumble dryer (where it's quite cold)and I last did a wash on Monday - it was fine. But on Wed turned it on and the display panel was blank. Breaker panel is fine and it is plugged in but nothing happens. Is it remotely possible that it doesnt like the cold?

My hoover machine is doing odd things! Its in an outbuilding and last night it was -15C so I suspect it just thought, sodd this I'm not going to work and I'm certainly not going to run the right program!

i used to live in a furnished flat and the fridge freezer must have been a cheapo one (despite being brand new) because it used to just switch itself off if the ambient temperature dropped below 7 degrees or something. Which seemed to happen when we were out at work most of the time with the heating off. Only discovered that when our frozen chips seemed to have started to defrost one night. Looked in the instruction booklet and that's what it said (can't recall what the exact minimum room temp had to be though, but remember it seeming quite high).

So I suppose it's possible with a washing machine. It hasn't turned itself off because the pipes have frozen, has it?

Oooer

My freezer is kept in the shed

Hope it's ok - saying that it must be 20 years old if it's a day, and they made them better back then,

Curly, that was a thought but would that mean that the function display panel would not light up... I don't know. It's interesting that the tumble dryer (also AEG) is still working altho what's the use if I cant do a wash!!!

Could you put a hairdryer on it and just kind of warm it up a bit? It might play nicely then.

out with the hairdryer this morning!

Did it work?

maggiethecat · 09/01/2010 15:45

sadly no altho I did hear a click when I turned the dial which is more than I had been getting before! I've turned the heating up in the garage just to see if that might help.
