Can you help me with ideas for what to include in a 3m x 7.5m bedroom space in our new extension?

We are at the stage of meeting with the architect to firm plans for the extension we hope to build this year. It's 2 storey and upstairs we will have a 3 x7 .5m space for our master bedroom & ensuite. So it's long and narrow, and the current plans have an ensuite at one end measuring 3 x 2m with a bit sticking out where the door will be and a recess which will house fitted wardrobes on the bedroom side IYSWIM.

These are the plans the architect came up with before (he did the plans with the previous house owners) and they seem fine but I am trying to think of other possibilities before it all becomes final. I was thinking of a smaller bathroom in order to try to put in a walk in wardrobe instead of standard fitted wardrobes but that might be too much of a squeeze. Or do you think maximum bathroom space would be better and have freestanding wardrobes? Have you done anything similar recently and have any ideas?

Thanks

It's very long... you might
have room to put a separate walk through dressing room, as well as ensuite, walk in shower, etc, and keep all your clutter in there so your sleeping bit is all lovely and calm and tidy.

depends how tidy you are.

It's nice to have at least one big family bathroom in the house, but probably it shouldn't be your own private one!

you could have a bank of freestanding wardrobes that you could walk around to let the light through and over, creating a kind of freestanding wall to create a dressing room space, without actually building a wall. ?? but even 5.5 m is long for a bedroom. I'm trying to design mine at the moment, so that it's door free and lets the light round, but is still private, but I havn't quite got it figured yet.

I would go with the en-suite and separate dressing room idea, they can be great for storage plus keep your sleeping space clutter free and calm.

We currently have one bathroom in the house which is absolutely tiny so we are hoping to make the en suite the main bathroom. It's me, DH and 2 DS's under two so it won't be too busy in there- yet!

I'm now thinking of having a big free standing bath (the main thing we want as the bath in the current bathroom is a small corner one that you can't stretch out in), a separate shower built into a recess so it doesn't stick out into the bathroom, and then make a wardrobe on the other side of the recess. Quite fancy making the wardrobe as big as poss to hide all our crap, I like the idea of a calm bedroom! We never use the bedroom during the day so we don't need a big floor space for TV, desk etc as it's just for sleep (& sex!).

MMmmm exciting, I'm meeting the architect on Monday so I'll run it all past him to see what he reckons. Thanks!
