Well the title says it all really.

We need to rent a 3/4 bedroom house within commuting distance of Hull city centre.

We would prefer nice quietish area with good primary school. We are happy to live in a village/small town.

So what areas should I consider?
And what areas should be avoided?

Thanks.

MY ILs live in Hessle- might be worth a look. Afraid i can't give much specific info re: schools etc, but it's definitely a convenient, child-friendly and welcoming neighbourhood from all i've experienced.

Thanks Trezza. The bloke who interviewed DP also mentioned Hessle. I'll have to do a bit of research!

Beverley is really lovely. My DB lived there - not sure about schools but lovely little town here.

Beverley - market town, very nice, think all schools are probably good. 20 mins-ish out of rush hour.

Kirk Ella - village, not many shops but not far to a Sainsbury's local and 3000 estate agents.

Probably best to avoid Hull itself if you're after decent schools.

Might be able to answer more questions - lived in Beverley until 14 years ago, nearly all family still live in the area

Kirkella, Westella and Swanland are all nice villages.

Welton and Brough are ok. They have grown a lot recently so you might find it easier to find suitable accomodation there.

Beverley is also a good place to live if you prefer a market town.

My knowledge of schools in these parts is v out of date, but I would be surprized if they weren't good.

Beverley is lovely. It is such a nice market town. The places already mentioned really are the nicer areas, basically all the villages round that way, Hessle, Kirkella, Ferriby etc are good. I grew up in Cottingham which is nice too. It is close to Hull and the primary schools are ok. I'm not sure about the secondary these days although it used to be good. It has a decent amount of village shops with butchers, greengrocers, bakery, some cafes, a branch of pretty much every bank and has a good weekly market.

Thanks for the replies. It's definitely given me something to work with. It's so difficult moving somewhere when you haven't got a clue what the area is like!

Cottingham is also nice and green. Its wear first year Uni students live but the village doesnt have a studenty feel to it I dont think.

There's lovely villages over that way, we're trying to move that way on (Pocklington ideally, but it's a bit of a commute from Hull.)
