I feel this could be the year we get actual heating - will be making the switch from early 1960s boiler to some sort of solid fuel, have any of you done this? Ideas about £££ in case I burst into tears when get first quotes?

More specifically any ways to cut initial installation costs without compromise?

thank you in advance!

am thinking about environmental sustainability a bit, but also mainly because have access to plenty of free firewood - am sure even if you pay for it wood is a more controllable sort of expense than gas or oil which just seems to rocket in price

or are these condenser ones v efficient to run, or is it the initial purchase/installation that is spendier with solid fuel?

will need to buy radiators though as we only have one at the moment, well one that works anyway

How about asking on the Green Building Forum? I would have thought that's the right sort of place for people who would know.
