We used James Removals www.jamesremovals.com/

They are based in Kidbrooke.

Gave us the lowest quote and were extremely professional, fast and friendly. They packed up our whole house for us (3 bed house) in 3 hours! No breakages.

MortaIWombat · 14/12/2009 21:10

Sounds good. Thanks JM!

F Smith and Son in Croydon - really great - a good price and very professional/friendly.

MortaIWombat · 15/12/2009 16:56

Thanks NooNoo! Now I've just got to hope they are free at the beginning of January.

Final bump before I call these two tomorrow for quotes!

You could try Harradines. We found them ok, not brilliant, but not the most expensive quote we had.

We have used them 3 times in the last year and a half and will be using them again shortly. No good if you want the packing done for you, but they are excellent for the moving part. Way cheaper than many others too. I highly recommend them and in fact it was on here that someone recommended them to me.

MortaIWombat · 15/12/2009 21:40

Thanks both! I'm definitely committed to getting the packing done for me though (well, assuming it's not crazy money)...

Second F Smith and sons excellent service for us a couple of years ago. They packed for us too. Well worth the money.

Burroughs. Based in Bromley.Burroughs Removals Ltd
103 London Lane

Tel: 020 - 8466 - 0822 | Fax 020 - 8325 - 9093

They were polite and very helpful - but was about 4 years ago. They packed my mother's house and our house and then swapped us (we bought her house, she bought our's).

pinksancerre · 15/12/2009 21:46

We used 7 day removals. (Erith) Cheapest quote by a clear mile. They were fab. Only company that would move us in one day (we were moving to Wiltshire) I have moved 4 times and have moved with Pickfords and 7 days were so much better. Arrived early - had us loaded by 10am, in Wiltshire by 2pm, unpacked by 6pm.

notcitrus · 15/12/2009 21:47

Six Keys, branches around London.
Kept a slot for us for weeks, transported bins full of fish tank water for me, unpacked beautifully until 8pm, lovely guys.

MortaIWombat · 15/12/2009 21:50

Ooh, more names to add. Thank you! (Am quite excited to have had two recommendations for the same company, too)

Who have you gone for?

MortaIWombat · 21/12/2009 15:19

Still getting quotes done.

Harradines been in this morning. Seem nice.

James were twenty minutes late this afternoon. Not a good omen. But seemed lovely.

F Smith & Son came over on Thursday, and have not yet quoted!

Six Keys too busy to come quote until 5th Jan. Did a quote from over the phone description of our small 3 bed terrace of £977.50!

Oh and called the number pooka put up for Burroughs - it was the family home, and son promised to get dad to call me back, but not yet heard from him, actually, so should probably get onto that myself!

HTH

NoseyNooNoo · 21/12/2009 21:28

Crikey Moley - how much are you moving?!?! We paid, in September, £500 to move the contents of a 4 bedroom house. We were moving about 20 mins away.

I'm sorry my recommendation was so rubbish. Actually we're renting and were hoping to use them when we buy again - perhaps not!!

NoseyNooNoo · 21/12/2009 21:30

I've just seen that you said a 3 bed house. I am shocked!!

MortaIWombat · 22/12/2009 02:13

Mmmm, 'tis mad. Clearly we appear vair posh, or summat!
One king size bed. One toddler bed. One cot.
One triple wardrobe. One toddler wardrobe.
One kitchen table and four chairs.
One two seater and one three seater sofa.
Three chests of drawers.
One side table, one tv stand.
One fridge-freezer (not a fancy US style huge one, just small).

All going 10 minutes' walk down the road (maybe 1-2 minutes' drive?)

I am Quite Cross.

Thanks snOlivia; shall try Cole & Sons!

Well, we went with James Removals in the end, and they were lovely (though we have only unpacked a bit so far...)
Quick, lovely, and prodigious appetites for tea and biccies.

A bit embarrassing that they even packed biscuit wrappers that had got lost behind the sofa and a couple of pantyliners that went down the back of the chest of drawers.
