Please come and tell me what's it's like, where the best primary schools are, will the welsh hate us, does it really rain all the time?!

Many thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong topic...

Do you know what part of Swansea you will be moving too?

It was dry today

cerys · 12/12/2009 21:40

It;s a great place to live, no the Welsh won;t hate you and although we've had spectactularly awful weather lately, no it doesn't rain all the time!

onesouffle · 12/12/2009 22:18

Thank you! Well the weather here's been pretty rubbish too.

My dh is quite likely to be studying medicine there next September. We're not sure where we'll be living but we're quite flexible. We really want to live somewhere that's good for ds1 and ds2 that's safe with good schools.

Is it friendly? We won't know anyone there and we'll be leaving quite a lot of friends and family here.

Friends of ours live in mumbles.

It seems a lovely friendly place. Whenever we visit, we're tempted to move there.

That's good to know marymotherofcheeses, can I ask what you like about it and do you live in a town?

Oooh it's just a sweet place and has a lovely sense of community. Having said that our friends there don't have kids, so no idea whatsoever about the schools. Their local pub is a lovely group of intelligent cultured people though (not quite sure where we fit in ha ha!). And the whole seafront / facilities thing seems ideal. Gorgeous beaches on your doorstep, the bars and cafes are improving all the time. the main shopping street is nice. We live in a suburb of Caardiff, just a couple of miles out of the city centre, but there's just something about mumbles we really like.

The Welsh won't hate you.

It does rain a lot.

Swansea is far superior to Cardiff.

There are some parts of Swansea you'll definitely want to avoid. If your DH is going to be studying medicine then presumably you'll need to be close to Singleton or Morriston Hospital? If the latter then Parc Gwernfadog is in walking distance of the hospital and has 2 good primaries, good bus route and relatively cheap rents. It is also close to the M4. If Singleton then you'll be jostling for position with all of the other students and the sort of student areas they congregate in. Happy to give more info it you like: llareggubmn at gmail dot com

Thank you llareggub, will do!

It sounds really interesting and idyllic MMOC thank you.

I envy you. I spent the best and happiest years of my life in Swansea. The Welsh are friendly, fun and welcoming, the pubs and clubs are great, and the secenery on the Gower is stunning. Wish I was still living there!

ex inlaws live in Swansea and there are some lovely parts. Mumbles is beautiful and they lived in a place called Sketty which is pretty close to the University/Singleton hospital.
