Who are the new New Heights?

We want a big dinner table. Proper wood. Probably oak. Decent solid family heirloom type buy, but modern classic design. Ideally 6-10 or 8-12 extendable size. Budget about £600, without chairs. I would have gone to New Heights, but sadly RIP. Been recommended John Lewis, but (gasp) did not find them very inspiring (although usually worship at the altar of JL so a bit disappointed). I love the new Ikea one,I'll try and link it, but DH even more of an aspirational snob than me and wants a "proper wood one". This is our Christmas and Birthdays 2010 buy!! Anyone?

OKA can be quite nice if you get a good deal.

was going to suggest Mark Eliott, but just had a look and too pricy.

Anything on here, I have just brought a console table from them, but live nearby didn't just buy off a website picture.

We got ours from BHS , they have a really nice range of solid wood dining tables.

We bought an contemporary oak dining table, seats 6 normally, up to 12 when fully extended, from somewhere called something like "Discount Furniture Warehouse" just off the M11 in Cambridge, for considerably less money than we were looking at in high street stores. Apparently they take a lot of surplus stock from Laura Ashley and John Lewis (we saw the sofa we had just bought from LA there at half price which was a little annoying), but the tables are specially made for them. The friend that told us about this tells us there are a number of branches of this place around the country.

here we have recently bought from them, very helpful over the telephone, lots of choice, love my table.
