PLEASE tell me what surround to have with my beauoootiful new wood burning stove

We live in a 1950's house so it doesn't have to be something that matches the house. I've put a pic on my profile, but in case it's not clear the stone underneath is grey yorkstone. The wall isn't painted yet but will be Farrow and Ball Tungsten Green the floor is parquet with a plain wool rug.
I was thinking of just an oak beam over it but wondered if that will look weird without being supported by something else. I love the country look but I don't live in a country cottage so I need to be restrained by you home style gurus If you've got a woodburner what have you done with it? I need ideas!

Not a clue but just wanted to say how gorgeous your burner is! How far wrong can you go with that as a focal point

I'm interested in reading your replies as we ripped out an old council type tiled fire surround a few months ago and have got as far as plastering the recess and laying some slate tiles.

IMO 1950's were very utilitarian so simple is good

Were you thinking smooth varnished, distressed rougher or something else?

I don't know Katymac! I waver between just distressed sort of rough oak beam like this sort of thing to painted this I don't think it needs a full fire surround though...or does it....gawd I am so indecisive grin]

Boolifooli - we ripped out a particularly lush mint green 50's fireplace...mmmm

imo not the first as it is too rustic - but a bit of planed timber maybe 3 inches deep and 6 inches wide with invisible supports?

The second is a good look but I would make the support much plainer

Ours was grey. It was here when we moved in and and every time DH expressed a desire to paint the lounge I made it clear I wasn't going to do a thing to it unless he let me change the fireplace. Some time during March he said 'okay' and I had ripped it out by teatime. Such a good feeling. We spent an afternoon looking at woodburners not long after but never settled on one and then got waylayed with sofa's and rugs and all that. Your pics make me want one ASAP. It's lovely.

Lovely woodburner - maybe some sort of surround might look nice with it, with grey slate tiles on a raised hearth

Love your log burner - we have one and its fab. Just a word of advice - we wanted to put a wooden beam above ours but when we looked into it we had to place it very carefully so there was sufficient distance from the flue which gets very hot to the wood which is of course combustible. In fact a friend of ours put a beam in like ours over her new burner when renovating her house but had to rip it out as it was too close and the burner company wouldn't have it.
