Stuck in rental

This is the AA of the unwilling renter, come and tell us who you are....

I'll start, my name is goldenpeach, it's not the first time I'm stuck in rental as it took me eight years to be able to buy my first home, but I'm stuck in rental again since August 2008, although it's my second rental home as I moved town. I am not on the first step of the ladder but buying a three-four bed has proved hard, and moving to Cambridge has not helped as the market is even crazier here.

I do want to buy but cannot find anything decent I can afford....

I had my offers laughed at in the first town, then outbid three times in this town and another.

We are unwilling renters but ONLY because tenants rights are so poor. I detest the whole housing market and really never want to be a part of it and probably would rather rent long term. I would just like to paint a few walls and do some work to the place without fear of being turfed out with 2 months notice.

House prices are still ridiculous at the moment but I firmly believe the ramping and the boom will stop at some point soon. So many people are losing their jobs or facing pay freezes and ultimately interest rates can only go up! Might be better to carry on renting for the foreseeable future IMO. I have a growing number of friends in negative equity or who can't afford to remortgage their houses and I don't envy them one little bit!!

renting sucks for the reasons scottie stated.
