Structural engineer costs London/SE

We've got planning permission for modernisation & a loft conversion of a house on the very far reaches of west London/M25 borders.

Architect's plans all complete & submitted to a recommended structural engineer. Got the quote back yesterday, all the calcs plus building regs plans = £1150 plus VAT.

We only need two steels in place & this strikes me as a little on the pricey side. Before I head out & get even more quotes, does anyone have any experience of this kind of service & the reasonableness or not of this quote?

thanks
