Has anyone used Big Yellow Storage? I couple of questions....

We have booked them to store the vast majority of our stuff for a couple of months while we temporarily move in with my mum (our new place is not ready). Most of our stuff is boxed up and most of our furniture is wooden. However, I am wondering what to do about our sofa and mattresses. Are the storage units clean? Can I just put the sofa and mattresses in there uncovered? Do I need something specail to protect them? Any ideas?

They sell protectors, but you can buy them from anywhere and they would probably be cheaper.

They are generally clean, we used big yellow and then safestore. It is a big industrial unit, divided with corrugated iron walls and ceilings.

Boxes are best because they stack so we actually chose our unit because they do differ in width and length by how many boxes high by how many boxes deep we could get in. We took a tape measure. Our sofa we up-ended onto its side.

It might be a bit dusty when you come to take it out and a bit cold but it should be fine.

They are relatively clean but beware - someone had spilt some paint on the trolley I used when I got my stuff out of storage. I would definitely cover your mattresses and sofas in plastic - you can get something from B&Q more cheaply than at the storage place.

Oh and don't go there in the evenings on your own - very spooky indeed!

Thanks everyone. I have ordered some plasitc protectors for the sofa and armchair from ebay. The mattresses (kids ones) have waterproof covers that zip over them so I will just leave those on and when we get tem out of storage, we can wash those and put them back on.
