Anyone recently had cavity wall insulation done?

I am living in a very cold, 60 odd yr old, bungalow, no central heating (apart from some electric storage heaters, that I try not to use), no heating in the main bedroom or kitchen.

I read 33% of heat is lost through walls.

How much is cavity wall insulation?

Any advice?

we had ours down 2 weks ago through company called Dyson who were very good. Cost can depend on your postcode a bit as there are more discounts for certain postcodes I believe. Ours cost £99 for a detached house up north. Its well worth it as the house does seem to retain heat for longer.

Hi I looked at getting it done as npower were offering it very cheaply last year, worth googling to see if any deals from your energy provider, also your local council may be doing promotions. I think it was about 70 pounds.

BUT I couldn't have it as not cavity wall - look at any exposed brickwork to see if all bricks are of same size, if they go long, short end, long it is not possible to do.

Hoohummmm, ours was quoted at £1300 plus in SE. Found a promotion that cut the price considerably but had to have the workmen back to redo the walls. Methinks they were 'cutting costs' because the first fill was rather shoddy as noticed by our trusted builders. Does work, warmer all around.

We got cavity wall and loft insulation for free a couple of weeks back. You can be earning up to 15 grand a year I think before it costs you anything, we have had it done in our last house in a different area too. They just ring the landlord if you rent to check it is ok and come and do it in a morning.

Cheers for the replies, I am quite keen to do this, need to get landlord to agree, but will pay for it, hopefully most will be covered by the government grant.

Look at the Energy Saving Trust website - they can advise you of all the grants available in your area and even put you in touch with someone to come and do a survey for you. You don't have to be a customer of an energy company to get a grant via them apparently - am not sure why or how it works, but that is what the loft insulation man told me last week.
